The Kilauea volcanic eruption and earthquakes have affected Hawai'i from May 3, 2018. On May 11, 2018, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the State of Hawai'i to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected during this period. On June 14, 2018, an amendment was made to the presidential disaster declaration of May 11, 2018  and now makes federal assistance available to eligible individuals, business owners and private non-profit organizations in Hawai‘i County.

Assistance can include grants for temporary housing, essential home repairs, uninsured and underinsured personal property losses, and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance. Individual assistance is available for affected people in the following areas:
