The Kilauea volcanic eruption and earthquakes have affected Hawai'i from May 3, 2018. On May 11, 2018, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the State of Hawai'i to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected during this period. On June 14, 2018, an amendment was made to the presidential disaster declaration of May 11, 2018  and now makes federal assistance available to eligible individuals, business owners and private non-profit organizations in Hawai‘i County.

Assistance can include grants for temporary housing, essential home repairs, uninsured and underinsured personal property losses, and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance. Individual assistance is available for affected people in the following areas:

For DR-4366, assistance for affected individuals and families is available and people are urged to apply through FEMA.

  • On the FEMA Mobile App, or by
  • Calling 800-621-3362 (FEMA). Applicants who use 711 or Video Relay Service may also call 800-621-3362. People who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability and use a TTY may call 800-462-7585. The toll-free numbers are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET, seven days a week. Multilingual operators are available. Press 2 for Spanish and press 3 for other languages. Deadline to apply with FEMA is August 13, 2018.
