About the Advocacy Center
In 2018, Pro Bono Net and Lone Star Legal Aid developed this Advocacy Center for DisasterLegalAid.org to address a nationwide need to network public interest legal advocates working on disaster legal aid and share advocacy resources and tools across regions.
We welcome groups working on disaster legal aid such as:
- Advocates and volunteers from nonprofit legal aid organizations
- Bar associations
- Pro bono counsel from law firms and corporations
- Law school students and faculty
- Allied nonprofits
The National Disaster Legal Aid Resource Center was originally launched in 2008 as a direct outgrowth of a website called Katrina Legal Aid, developed in 2005 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. With funding from the Legal Services Corporation's Technology Initiative Grant program, DisasterLegalAid.org was significantly expanded in 2014. This site is a collaborative effort of Pro Bono Net, Lone Star Legal Aid, the American Bar Association, the Legal Services Corporation, and the National Legal Aid and Defender Association.
